The Black Country Chamber of Commerce (BCC) has joined forces with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group (BCCG) to support a wide-ranging review of the region’s transport network.
Chief executives Jerry Blackett (BCCG) and Margaret Corneby (BCC) have offered their backing to Atkins Global, which has been commissioned by the Government to carry out a review of transport in the cities and regions. They say “We wish to convey our support for the proposed Transport Governance Review. The decision to launch a review of the transport arrangements in the West Midlands presents an opportunity to acknowledge the weaknesses of the current governance and is an opportunity to move towards more effective integration to deal with long-term structural challenges to the transport network.”

The roles and responsibilities of transport bodies in the West Midlands have often been unclear, duplicative, and inefficient. Promoting Black Country Transport Schemes

The responsibility for prioritising local transport major schemes from 2015/16 and for overseeing their delivery has been devolved by Government to Local Transport Bodies (LTB). The Black Country Strategic Transport Board will serve as our LTB.

The Black Country Strategic Transport Board (LTB) is seeking scheme proposals to access major scheme funding. In the first investment period (2015-2019), the Black Country has an indicative allocation of £27.6 million (=/- 33%).

Please note, applications for funding are welcomed from any organisation, individual or group of individuals so long as the scheme proposal satisfies the minimum criteria included under section 1 of the guidance.

The deadline for submission of the Strategic Outline Case application to the Black Country Strategic Transport Board is 5pm, Friday 17 May 2013. Decisions on successful applications will be announced in the summer of 2013.
